Dracula 2000
Patrick Lussier (2000, USA)
Cast: Gerard Butler, Jonny Lee Miller, Christopher Plummer, Justine Waddell
Plot:
A group of thieves break into a chamber expecting to find paintings, but instead they release the count himself, who travels to New Orleans to find his nemesis' daughter, Mary Van Helsing. Nice twist to the original story here, and a more religious approach to the subject. We eventually learn the reason behind Dracula’s hatred for all things christian and silver (though that one don’t make much sense..).
Appreciation: 6/10
I had low expectations from this one, being some big american movie, but I came out with pretty much neutral feelings about it. Frankly i don't even know why i'm writing a critic about it.
The best thing about this movie (imho) is the cinematography, but it seems to follow the current trends too much. We can easily recognize some "Matrix" influences, and it kept me asking myself why they did it this way. For some reason (well, obviously because it looks cool), everyone in movies nowadays knows kung fu. Have i missed my kung fu classes when i was young or something?
The plot was interesting in that it did not copy the usual one we’ve seen a zillion times, but nothing here to jump out the window. The acting was ok, but I personally didn’t like the villain (Dracula..) that much, at least in the first few scenes, he seemed too fake to me.
Good entertainment but nothing spectacular. Fast food cinema. Hardcore horror fans should avoid this one.
