Ebola Syndrome
Herman Yau (1996, Hong Kong)
Cast: Anthony Wong, Meng Lo, Lori Shannon, Vincent Yang
Plot:
Kai, an evil pervert cook, murders his boss and his wife, and proceeds to escape to Africa to avoid prosecution. While there, he comes across a village plagued by the Ebola virus. He stumbles across a lone girl dying from the virus, and what does he do? Does he help her? Does he run away? Of course not! He rapes her! Luckily for him, he’s part of the 1/10 000 000 people who can survive the virus. So he comes back to Hong Kong with the virus (unkowingly at first), kills his new boss, the wife and the boss’s cousin, and makes "African buns" (more or less hamburgers) with them. So the virus starts to spread rapidly...
Appreciation: 9/10
Don’t get yourself misguided by the title. This is not the ordinary virus movie (à la Outbreak). This is easily the grossest film I’ve seen in ages (edit: Pink Flamingo has since taken the upper hand in this category). Kai, the main character, is the most deprived sleazebag character you’ve ever seen. Masturbating with pieces of meat is one of his hobbies. Raping half-dead girls and killing his boss are others. And yet he manages to always feel like he’s the victim. Charming eh..
Anthony Wong's performance makes this movie, along with the gore and the general grossness. The rest don't matter
Needless to say more. I totally loved it, and you’ll either love it or hate it. But I say, if you can get your hands on a copy of this movie, go and get it!!
For an added effect, see this movie when you’re sick :)
