Plot:
A young American girl (Connelly) is transfered into an all girl Swiss academy where murders are happening. And most unusual, she discovers she has special telepathic links with insects, that her moods influence them. So with the help of insects and an enthomologist (insect specialist), she tries to find the murderer. What she discovers is most surprising and disturbing.
Appreciation: 9/10
How could someone not love a movie with Jennifer Connelly? (for those unfamiliar, she’s the girl from "Labyrinth", the movie with David Bowie)
She, along with Mr. Pleasence give a delicious performance. She has that innocent yet powerful look very few actors that age have.
This film is disgusting aplenty, especially towards the end, which I found to be absolutely lovely. The first half hour after the intro is a bit mellow, but it’s all worth the watch, as it builds up for the most interesting parts. I seriously shivered (which is all too rare) at the sight of some scenes near the end, particularly creepy.
As with every movie from Argento, the visuals are superb, the lighting, the murdering chases, the dreams, etc.. It has an overall coldness and eeriness which makes it disturbing, especially that everything looks realistic, except some insects effects which are a bit outdated by today’s standard, but that didn’t bother much.
To top that, the story is most interesting and very complex for a horror movie.
Defenitely worth the watch!
